Baked Donuts Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional, adds classic donut flavor)
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: Sprinkles, chopped nuts, or other toppings
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a donut pan with non-stick spray or butter.
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground nutmeg.
- Mix Wet Ingredients:
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Combine Ingredients:
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the batter should be slightly thick.
- Fill the Donut Pan:
- Spoon the batter into a piping bag or a large resealable plastic bag with a corner snipped off. Pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full.
- Bake:
- Bake the donuts in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool:
- Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Make the Glaze:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk or heavy cream, and vanilla extract until smooth. If the glaze is too thick, add a little more milk; if it’s too thin, add a little more powdered sugar.
- Glaze the Donuts:
- Dip the cooled donuts into the glaze, allowing the excess to drip off. Place the glazed donuts back on the wire rack. If desired, add sprinkles, chopped nuts, or other toppings while the glaze is still wet.
- Serve:
- Let the glaze set for a few minutes, then enjoy your baked donuts!
